So mom's breathing tube was taken out at 6:30 this morning, which was a huge relief to her. She's able to talk. They've given her her own morphine pca (patient controlled pain relief). The nurse thinks she'll move out of the ICU today.
Last night was so rough and upsetting for me. I'm really relieved that she's doing better. Patients tend to not do well when they wake up and realize that there is a breathing tube in their throats, breathing for them.

Dearest Meg, First of all, thank you so much for keeping us up to date on your mother's progress. I'm so glad to hear that the surgery went well and that the trach tube was taken out this morning. I'm sure she knows we all love her and send her many good wishes and prayers, but just in case, please let her know!
Love, Vera
Dear Meghan,
Please give your Mom my love and best wishes. Tell her she needs to get better soon so we can plan our next Filoli visit!
Love,
Michael
Thank you, thank you, dear girl, for keeping us informed. I pray the worst is over and that recovery will be steady and sure.
Give Diane my love--
