It has been a long time since I made a BLOG entry. As my mother always said, "No news is good news." That is true in this case. My health continues to improve. I am able to walk without assistive devices, but not for long as my stamina is low. I have physical therapy 2X per week. I like it. Yesterday's visit to the knee replacement factory was satisfying in that the assistant said that I could do anything now that my knee would allow except for high impact activities. "Half-pipe," no.
Speaking of which, did you enjoy the Olympics? I did. Every night I looked forward to seeing the activities. Then I would think of what the parents had to do so that their athlete child could reach Olympic heights.
Here's some fun that I've had recently: The Super Bowl was exciting. My colleague and I completed docent training in Native American/First Peoples studies. I loved how the Canadians celebrated their First Nations in the Olympics. A public radio announcement told of a Chris Botti concert at Flint Center, nearby. I went all by my self and loved the concert. Chris Botti is a fabulous trumpet player and eye-candy as well. Saw "Daddy Long Legs" with a friend. Wonderful, touching play. I trained for the new China exhibition. I am very impressed with the ink artists and the exhibition is beautifully rendered.
I've saved the best til last. My Texas friends celebrate birthdays by taking the B-day girl out for an elegant lunch. I have never been able to participate. I looked at my schedule and last weekend I went to Texas to surprise Kathleen at her birthday lunch. I had to tell one of the friends that I was coming as I needed a ride to the event. She brought Kathleen to my sister's house to pick me up, making up a reason to be there. Here is a group photo and Kathleen's surprised look when she first saw me.
I had a great time at my sister's house. We were able to include a dinner with extended family at "Outback Steakhouse." I have not eaten steak in a very long time. My filet mignon was incredibly delicious! Here are family shots.
I close with some photos of Olive and Keela, my best Skype friends.
With gratitude to all for making my life so full and healthy.
Love,
Diane

Hi Diane, The news is fabulous about your health..and the photos are wonderful. I especially liked the one of Olive in the hat..she looks like a good candidate for the Red Hat Society...of course in many years. So glad you could get to Texas. The Olympics were great. I was on the end of my chair throughout the hockey game. The results were fine although I did cheer the USA. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Much love, Vera
What a great update! Thanks, Diane. Of course I knew about your Chris Botti concert (such a classy looking dude! -- and plays trumpet like an angel!) but was interested in Daddy Long Legs. My mother talked about seeing that play as a little girl -- we're talking the 1920's now -- and how she cried and cried; could it really be the same play? Where did you see it?
So glad you're on the mend and having such a good time. When I grow up I want to be just like you! :-)
But not yet...just accepted a job, which will cut my traveling for a few years, back at the old Wiland place in Longmont; same kind of job, much less responsibility -- and that sounds grand to me. And, we close on our house next Thursday. So, things are looking up! You'll have to come visit!
XOXO Araby
